Torrie Armstrong

Where did you grow up? Santa Barbara, California

Where do you find inspiration? I am in awe of the way that nature is constantly evolving and displaying different forms of beauty. I love how the ocean never looks exactly the same, it is ever-changing, ebbing and flowing, and contains massive power within it. I feel the same way about the city skyline, with all the mysteries and layers of energy it contains, it’s so magical. There’s nothing more majestic than a good sunset show over either one.

What do you do besides hair? I also give tarot and astrology readings. I’ve been studying both for about 6 years and am often in some sort of class on the subject. My boyfriend and I love to travel, whether it’s out to California to see our families, driving upstate to get out of the city, or an international adventure. Besides that I love going out to dinner with friends, seeing live music, catching the sunset, and hanging out with my black cat, Minerva. I love to travel, my boyfriend and I are from the same town so we go back to visit a lot, trying to plant some bicoastal seeds. I also like to drive upstate or out to the beach whenever possible. I love going to shows, exploring this amazing neighborhood I get to live in, and spending time at home with my cat. I’m usually in some kind of tarot or astrology class, giving readings, writing, meditating, and catching as many sunsets as possible.

What do you love most about being a hairdresser?   I love that I have a job that allows me to connect with anyone and everyone. It is an honor to be in service to my community in a way that creates a positive impact. I get to help my clients feel beautiful, confident, and empowered in a world that does not always make that process easy. My favorite thing to do is to help my clients explore their options to find a haircut that feels liberating and true to themselves.

What looks are you into right now? When I’m growing out my bangs, I like to live vicariously through my clients. If you think you can’t have bangs for some reason, I’m here to show you a way around that reason. I love anything with movement, soft blended shapes that work with the hair’s natural texture, and continues to look great as it grows out. I’m also here for a textured one-length bob and a sweet little pixie that frames the face.

Cut- Color - or both? Cutting is my one true love, it’s like sculpting to me. I love how universal and simple it is - everyone everywhere continues to need their hair tended to, and all I need is my scissors to make it happen. With color, I find satisfaction in creating dimension and blend, for a sparkly natural look that will grow out without any hard lines.
