I grew up in northern Minnesota, but where I come from continues to evolve through the places I've lived. I spent a decade in Nashville, and then made my way back to Minneapolis before landing in NYC. Each place shaped me in different ways, but Brooklyn is where I feel most at home, and I am really happy to be here.

I have found the most inspiration through exploring my own queerness + gender, but also through community, history, music, poetry, fashion, art, nature, astrology, surrealism, and by romanticizing everyday life. I am really inspired by people in general. The way they move, the way they carry themselves when they feel confident and seen. Every interaction, every moment of connection sparks something in me. 

Outside of hair, I'm always creating. As a Gemini Rising (with a side of Scorpio Sun/Cancer Moon) I love to dabble in a lot of things. Right now I'm focused on collage art, writing, music, and exploring wellness + ritual as part of everyday life. I'm fascinated by how art, care, and self expression overlap, how astrology layers in, and how beauty can be grounding instead of performative. You'll also often find me biking around the city, doing yin yoga, playing a board game, or watching a film with my sweet cat, Luna. 

I love the intimacy of this craft. Hair is deeply personal and getting to be trusted with that feels meaningful. I love helping people feel more like themselves, deep conversations, and making a real impact through my work. I also love that every day is different in terms of the types of projects I get to do, I am an artist and creative first so getting to utilize those skills daily is really fulfilling for me. 

Affirming styles. I am really into customizing a look for someone. Intuitively co-creating for an individual’s vision and structure. I love something that feels like it was created to work with you not against. 

BIG TRANSFORMATIONS. I love a good before and after, as you can see on my instagram @afternoonswithak, but also I love doing extensions (especially alternative mullet styles), creative + lived in color, and intuitive cutting!
